ODESA, UKRAINE- the Russian Cruiser Moskva sunk earlier today, after the ship was damaged last night. The ship, which is the Flagship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, was the ship that famously faced defiant Ukrainian Soldiers in the early days of the invasion, in which Ukrainian forces refused to surrender before Russian forces stormed the island, an event which Ukrainian officials glorified, by issuing a commemorative stamp.

Russian officials say the ship was damaged as a result of a munitions explosion which caused the ship to set on fire, and that the ship sank while they were towing back to Sevastopol, but they Ukrainians say they struck the ship with two Neptune missiles.

The Destruction of the Moskva is the latest in a series of massive setbacks in Russia’s failed invasion of Ukraine, which has not yielded any significant gains for the Russian forces.

The Ship had a crew of over 500 men, with 14 known survivors, and 57 men reportedly rescued by the Turkish military.

The ship’s destruction will make Russia’s ambitions in the Southeastern part of the country difficult, further hindering their ambitions to seize control of the region.
